How to make a weekly photo dump
A weekly photo dump works when it is small. Pick one day, shoot a few frames each day, and spend fifteen minutes on that day choosing ten, ordering them and writing three words. Keeping the streak matters more than any single post, so make each one easy to finish.

Why make a dump every week?
A week is the right size. It is long enough to contain variety and short enough that you remember what the photos were about. Waiting a month turns the same job into a chore with 400 photos. Doing it weekly keeps the pile under 150 and turns the sorting into a short ritual instead of a project.
There is also a quieter benefit. A weekly dump nudges you to notice small things during the week, because you know you will want something to put in it. People who keep the habit often say they look at their ordinary days more closely. The idea is close to keeping a diary, just made of pictures.
Which day should I pick?
Choose the day when you naturally scroll your camera roll. For many people that is Sunday evening, which is why Strewn defaults its reminder to Sunday at 18:00. Others prefer Friday lunch or Monday morning. The time chips in Strewn are 10:00, 13:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 21:30, and any weekday works. Consistency beats the perfect slot, so pick one and keep it for a month before you judge it.
What is the fifteen-minute routine?
Here is a version that fits a short break:
- Minutes 0 to 3: scroll the week and select about 25 photos you like.
- Minutes 3 to 6: cut near-duplicates and keep the sharpest of each.
- Minutes 6 to 9: choose the opener and the closer.
- Minutes 9 to 12: fill the middle, alternating bright and calm, and place one loose frame near slide 4.
- Minutes 12 to 14: write three words or a short list as the caption.
- Minute 15: save the slides in order and post.
What should I shoot during the week?
Treat the week like a scavenger hunt with loose rules. One meal, one view, one person, one detail, one thing that went wrong. If you hit three of those most days, you will have forty candidates by Sunday. Do not stop to stage anything. A photo taken in two seconds with no pose is usually the one that ends up in the dump. For a longer list, see photo dump ideas.
How does Strewn support the habit?
Strewn is built around this loop. During onboarding you choose a day and time, and the reminder is scheduled on the phone. It reads Your week is ready to strew, and tapping it opens the New dump screen. The Dumps tab shows a streak of weeks in a row, and the New dump screen offers This week and Last week as periods. Weeks run Monday to Sunday, and the streak counts back from this week, or from last week if you have not started this week's yet.
Details are in the Sunday dump page. Strewn is in development and not on the App Store yet.
What if I miss a week?
Miss a full week and the streak returns to zero in Strewn, which is fair, but the app also has Last week as a period, so you can catch up on Monday and keep the count. If you miss more than that, start again. A streak is a prompt, not a score, and nobody else sees yours.
Do not make up for a missed week with a giant two-week dump. Post this week's dump and forget the gap.
How do I keep the dumps from looking the same?
Change one variable each month. A different frame, a different opening type, a different caption format, or a theme such as green things or night walks. Strewn offers vibes (Story arc, Timeline, and in Pro, Color flow and Shuffle) and three caption formats. Rotating them is a cheap way to keep a weekly series feeling fresh without extra work.
What should the caption be?
Short and repeatable. Many weekly posters use the same format every time, such as three words, a song on repeat or the best thing they ate. A recurring shape makes the series recognizable. Strewn has six prompts and three formats to support this. See caption ideas.
Should the dump be public?
It does not have to be. Some people keep a private account, a close friends list or just the archive inside the app. The value of the habit is in making it, and posting is optional. Strewn keeps your dumps on the phone with their slide order, captions and export settings, and can duplicate any dump as a starting point.
What are the limits of a weekly dump?
The reminder is a single weekly time. The streak counts any week with at least one dump, regardless of quality. There is no feed or leaderboard in Strewn. If you reinstall, the dumps and streak go with the old install unless an iPhone backup restores them. Those are the honest edges, and they keep the habit light.
How do I make the shooting part effortless?
Lower the friction on the phone. Put the Camera app on your lock screen shortcut so a photo is one swipe away, and favorite a photo the moment you take one you like. By Sunday your Favorites album is a ready shortlist. You do not need a separate camera or a plan, only a habit of tapping the heart.
If you take many photos in bursts, do not worry. Folding the near-twins is the job of the sorting step, not the shooting step.
Is a weekly dump too much for followers?
Most followers see a small share of your posts, so repetition is rarely a problem. If you feel you are posting too often, switch to every other week, or post privately and share only the monthly version. The habit lives in the making, not the volume.
How do weekly dumps turn into a monthly one?
Every four or five weeks you will have a set of dumps worth summarizing. See monthly photo dump ideas for a way to pick the best opener from each week and build a recap.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I post a photo dump?
Weekly is a good rhythm: enough variety, a manageable pile. Monthly works if you prefer fewer posts.

Whichever day you already scroll your camera roll. Sunday evening is the common choice.
How long does a weekly dump take?
About fifteen minutes with a routine, a little more with a long camera roll.
Does Strewn remind me?
Yes. You choose a day and time, and a local reminder reads Your week is ready to strew. It is the only notification the app sends.
What if I forget a week?
Use Last week as the period on Monday to catch up, or skip it and start again.
